ship logs
rinnandoIs it possible to find out where and on which ship a certain seaman was at on a certain date in time? I am looking for information about my father, born in 1914 trondheim Norway. His name was Terje Rinnan ( please not related to Henry Rinnan ! ) His company shipped to and from Europa the USA in the early 1950'ties, I do not know the name of the company , nor do I know the name(s) of the ship. Can anyone help me? The company could be gorrison, as my grandfather also worked for them. And Terje Rinnan lived in Baltimore in the 1950'ties. If I could find any positive facts as of where exatly he was between May and June of 1952 , I would be very grateful. I am also looking for information about my grandfather Carl Julius Rinnan. He was stationed in New Orleans as Port Capitain for the company Gorrissen in the late 30 ties I think. I would be grateful for Any information , as I have no family to ask, nor people who knew him. tthank you rinnando Edited by - rinnando on 09/01/2003 22:59:39

rinnandoThank you for looking that up, Carla. Yes that is terje Rinnan, my father. He did die in New Orleans. And about Carl Julius Rinnan, I did find information about him on the norwegian Digitalarkivet from 1900. What I really need is information about the where abouts of my father in May- June 1952. I think there must be a way to find this info in ship logs or something, as they do report all crew memebers and places and docking times. But where and how can I find this info? Thanks to the internet it has become easier to find info, that was never before advaliable. I will continue to search and any help is welcome. rinnando
BorgeMaybe you are related to the famous Captain Arne Rinnan, who rescued 438 persons off Christmas Islands. He is from the Trøndelag area, and I should guess that his name originates from the Rinnan farm near Levanger in North-Trøndelag. Actually, some of my ancestors came from that farm too. As to the question about Terje Rinnan's career at sea, it should be possible to trace him in the seaman's registers. However, he will only be listed there as long as he was considered a Norwegian citizen. At the Statsarkivet in Trondheim they have an old card archive sorted by last name, and you could try writing them and ask if they will look him up. Address: Statsarkivet i Trondheim Postboks 2825 Elgesæter 7432 Trondheim Don't expect too much, as they usually do not have the cappasiti to spend a lot of time on lookups. If you have no luck, I will see what I can do the next time i visit the archives. Børge Solem
rinnandoIt would be an honor to be related to Arne Rinnan, don't you think so? I will try to write. I only wished it wasn't so far or I could look up things myself. My father Terje Rinnan was a Norwegian citizen up until about 1960 I think, he was born in Trondheim. This is the information I need. On which ship Terje Rinnan was in the month May- June 1952. It was a Norwegian ship, maybe the company Gorrisson from Oslo? Yes I know of the rinnan farm. I have found it on the web as well, it is now a small community and a train station I believe. I have'n' been able to go back further then my grandfather father Ole Rinnan born 1847, he was an English translator ( ) tolk as well as a carpenter according to the Norwegian digitalarkivet. thanks again; rinnando Edited by - rinnando on 29/01/2003 18:16:33
