Looking for Peter Simonsen or Simonson
wanttogoMy ggrandfather was from Oslo, Norway. On the 1900 Fed Census for Mobile, Ala. he is 74, born in Aug of 1825 or 26. He stated that he had been in the USA for 60 years. According to this information, he came here in 1840. According to family information from the Bible, he went from Oslo to New York then to Chicago, IL. From there he went to Mobile, AL were he spent his life. He is buried there. Would like information on the ship, list, or any information you can help me with. Thank you so much if you can. thelebrityEven though Peter (probably Peder when he lived in Norway) went from Oslo he didn't nessecerily live in Oslo before he emigrated. Oslo (or Christiania as it was called at the time) was the port through which most emigrants from the southeastern part of Norway left the country. If you find any immigrant papers which include a surname other than Simonsen, you will probably have the name of the farm he lived on before emigrating. That will narrow the search a lot.
