1905/1906 Ship Info?
Jill Holterman	I am having trouble locating exactly where my relatives arrived in the USA. My family sources here tell me they think 1906 and into Ellis Island and another says Boston. I have not been able to confirm either of these. I have searched the Digitalarkivet and see a "Sven Ness" scheduled to leave 7/7/1905. My Great Grandfather's name was "Swan" but information I find it is spelled "Svein". He was born in Harran in 1875. He would have been traveling with his wife Julie (Julia) Asved and 4 children. The information I find shows that if my relatives did immigrate in 1905, they would have shipped out of Oslo/Kristiana. Can anyone confirm this for me? And if so, can you tell me what port they arrived in the USA? Any help would be so appreciated. Thank you!
Brining	What was your Great grandfathers last name? The Sven Ness on the digitalarkivet is single and his residence is America so probably not yours. Do you have the childrens names? Carla
Jill Holterman	-My Great Grandfather's name is Swan but in some documents it is listed Svein Olsen Ness. He was born in Harran on 5/1/1875. He would have been traveling with: Julia Margrethe Johnsdatter (Asved) born 10/23/1878 at Aasveit (near Nomsos?). Their 4 children: Gjertrude: born 9/17/1899 Johanna: born 4/8/1901 Olea: born 1/20/1903 Signe: born 3/12/1905 Signe was baptized 5/14/1905 in the following church. I found a record from the Grong County Church office dated May 8, 1906 stating: "The family informs us that they want to immigrate to America. They will no longer be members of this parish." So now I'm guessing that they must have immigrated after this date. I really appreciate you checking into this. I'm ready to pull my hair out trying to find this information. I don't understand some of the Norwegian websites so it makes it kind of difficult...all I can do is look for names.

Trond	This family left Trondheim on the Wilson Line steamship Tasso bound for Hull, England on June 6, 1906. In England (Liverpool) they changed for a ship in the Cunard Line fleet. http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_line.asp?ag=cunar&ye=1906 I can’t find them in the Ellis Island records so they might have arrive in Boston (in and around June 16) Trond Austheim
