Ravnefjeld (Rawn) In Old Country ??
Dale A RawnI am looking for any information on my family in Norway. My grandfather was Pedersen Simon Ravnefeld shortned to Rawn. He came to Canada in 1893 and settled in Ericksdale, Manitoba. I know he was from the village or parish of Davik, Norway. He married Amelia Knutson who I think she was from Bergen, Norway. Thank you for any information you may have or direct me to.
jwiborgHi, Peder Simon Pedersen Ravnefjeld, 19 yrs, left Bergen on 12-Apr-1893. Parents: Peder Kristens. and wife Kari Rasmusd. Peder Kristensen is a farmer on "Ravnefjell" in 1874. She lives with her son Kristen Ravnefjeld and wife Kristianne Andersdtr. Another son of Kari (Andreas Pedersen) is also living on the farm. It could be an error from the person below, whos last name also is Pedersen Ravnefjeld. Do you know of any "Andr Kristoffer Pedersen Ravnefjeld"? One "Amalia Randine Knudsdtr Svenneim", born 1876, emigrated on 9-May-1894. Could it be your "Amelia Knutson"...? BriningHi Dale in the 1950 the Ravnefjell farm was owned by Peder K. Ramnefjell according to Matrikkelutkastet av 1950 so in Norway it looks like the last name spelling changed. Carla
jwiborgHi, if you want to find living relatives, you should take a look at the online telephone book for Norway: Telenor white pages Some detail about Davik: Post code (zip): 6730 municipality: Bremanger Region (county): Sogn og Fjordane There are a lot of "Ramnefjell" in 6037 Eidsnes, but thats a different county.... //Jan Peter
Dale A RawnNow What ?? Thanks for all your help. I now know that my great granfathers name was Peder Kristens and my great grandmothers name was Kari Rasmusd and they lived in Ranvnefjell, counuty of Sogn og Fjordane and Parish of Daviken. Im stuck again after trying for several hours to follow them back futher. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks agian for all your help. Dale
jwiborgHi Dale, just to clearify; the full name of Peder Simon Pedersens parents are "Peder Kristensen" and "Kari Rasmusdatter". It was prob. the priest who shorten the names in the churchbook. Kristensen because he was the son of Kristen (or Kristian/Christian) and Rasmusdatter because she was the daughter of Rasmus. From the 1900-census, you also know that Kari is born in 1842 (+/- 1) in "Aalfot". Aalfot looks to be in the Davik area, because on some other people it says "Aalfoten in Davik". Peder Kristensen died on 19-May-1890:Click here It looks like he is born on 16-JUN-1837. Here you can find a lot of resources from the county of Sogn og Fjordane: Click here It's in norwegian, but you should be able to understand most of it... :-) You can use the Norwegian - American Dictionary below to translate... Click on "kirkebøker" to get to the churchbooks for the Davik area. For instance; "Kirkebok (vigde) for Sogn og Fjordane, 1669-1922" will show you all marriages in the Sogn & Fjordane county between 1669-1922. (dåp) will show you baptized, and (gravlagde) will show you buried.... If you use that link to search for married people for example, you should "easily" find the day Peder and Kari got married. And you will see that Kari's father is Rasmus Monssen... :-) And from there you can search on his name to see who he married, or where he lived in the census... The census from 1801 and 1865 can tell yuo more about him. You can find census for 1801, 1865 and 1900 from Digitalarkivet below. Well, this should get you started.... :-) //Jan Peter
