Updates & news Oct. - Dec. 2002
BorgeIt's been a while since we posted any updates now. It is not because we have not been adding any new material. The last months we have been adding and updating quite extensively the ships databases. We have added fleet lists for most of the great transatlantic companies, and in the Agents & Shipping lines database you will now be able to see a fleet lists relating to specific years. Trond has also added much to the Index of Emigrant ship Arrivals 1870-1894 database. Another new feature is that the arrivals will be shown on the ships specific pages, and we are currently also working to add more information about the specific ships. To be able to create pages containing material from different databases, we need to switch from static pages to dynamic pages, which means that the old htm pages will disappear, and we will make redirect links to the new dynamic asp pages. In this proses there might appear some technical errors. Please let us know if you find dead links or other errors, and we will do our best to correct them. There has not been added a lot of new passenger lists to the "Emigrants 1825-1875" database the latest months. My old film reader has broken down, and I do not know when or if I will be able to get a new reader: In the mean time we hope that other volunteers will keep the proses going. We are also hoping to find an experienced person that will volunteer as a coordinator for the transcription project. Through 2002 we have been fortunate to received many contributions of material, and of funds to finance the NorwayHeritage project site. It is not possible to mention all of our friends by name, but we would like to thank you all for your contributions, big or small. Without your help we would not be able to keep on developing the NorwayHeritage site. We would also like to thank all of our friends that are helping people by answering questions, and participating in debates posted to the forums. Børge Solem
EschmandThis information was great. I checked out the site and found alot of information about my grandmothers possible arrivals/ships. All I have is the year 1905 from Norway and can not find her in the Ellis Island records and have been totally at a loss until today. Now I can do some further research as to ship manifests to look at. Any help with that information on line? Thanks, Ellen
