Emigrant Route
debbieMy great grandmother and her uncle emigrated from Sogndal, Norway to Quebec in July, 1870 aboard the ship Galathea. Even if it is simply an educated guess, I would like to know how she might have traveled from Sogndal to Bergen (How long of a trip? If more than a day, where were the likely stopovers along the way?) Also, once arriving in Quebec, what was the general emigrant route, and by what means, to Wisconsin. Thanks, Debbie Edited by - debbie
BorgeHello Debbie I think the most likely way she would have been traveling from Sogndal to Bergen is by boat. From Quebec to Wisconsin they usually traveled by steamboat and train. You might get an idea by reading the account from the passenger on the Galathea in 1865: http://www.NorwayHeritage.com/ships/galeatha.htm That's all, does anyone else have additional info?
