Looking for Olson/Olsen
kriddleI am looking for any information on a William Olson/Olsen (his name was changed to colson/colsen when he immigrated. It was told to me that he insisted to the day he died that his last name was Olson/Olsen.) His date of birth is given as March 6, 1859 or 1861 and he was listed as being born in Christiana, Norway (Found in the 1911 census from Sandy Point, Newfoundland, Canada). It is thought that he immigrated about 1880, he was definitely in Sandy Point, Newfoundland, Canada by 1882 because that's when he married my gg grandmother. I believe that he came over as a ship's carpenter, and I know for sure that's how he made his living, as a carpenter. I don't know if he came over with any family members, and I don't know for sure what his parents names are. I did find a mention of a William and Ellen for parents. I do realize that this is quite like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but I figured I would try anyways. If it makes any difference at all, he named his children William, Peter, Edward and Ralph. If anyone can help, it would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Karen Riddle
CurrieHi There, I am currently doing research on my Family Tree, and I can tell you, for most Newfoundlanders it's a complex task. I was pleased to come across your posting. I haven't been able to get past when my GGGrandfather came to the "Rock" and you might be able to provide some info for me as well. I can send you what I have if you give me your email address and I'll attach a file. My home email address is curriel@nb.sympatico.ca Tks.
