Ole and his on Jon bought the farm in1789 and since then their descendants have been all owner/farmers. Ole and Jon divided the farm between them and their descendants still own and live on the 2 farms. Ole sold his farm (to a nephew) in 1843 and immigrated to America (he is my gr gr gr grandfather) The first known ancestors of our family were Arve Jonsen Vale who lived about 1670 and Jon Arvesen Vale who died in 1748. They were tenant farmers on the farm in Valebo.
I'm not sure but I thiink it is the second Ole Vale who came to Whitewater,Wisconsin in 1843. but the line goes Ole, Jon, Ole Vale,Jon Vale
Now, I don't know Norwegian, but I will study the web sites you gave me, I am 80 yrs old and don't take to very much study - I was hoping to get a "quick" answer. I came across in a book (The Annals of Whitewater) some interesting statements on Hans Arvesen Vale (son of Arve Gunderson Vale) and that is why my question.
I visited the Vale farms in 1999 and got my information from Bent Vale who was 90 yrs old. I am aware that many of the immigrants took the name of the farm on which they worked but it happened that Ole owned the farm Vale. He followed his son in coming here. The first thing the family asked me when I visited was WHY did he come - the farm was "solid".
