Passenger List
Betty Jean EllingsonGreetings! I am looking for a passenger list for Olga Heggdahl from Alesund who came to America in 1923 at the age of 22. Her parents were Jonas and Anna Heggdahl. She emigrated to America alone. Just wondering if you could help me find this information. I tried to use the digitalarkivet but did not find anything. Thanks so much! Rennae Millette Betty Jean Ellingson
jwiborgHi Betty, Servant Olga Hegdal, born 1902, emigtrated from Ålesund on Sept. 1st, 1923. Click here I've not been able to find her parents in the 1900-census. I've found one Jonas Hegdal living in Grue, Hedmark county. He is 49 years old, and unmarried, so I don't find it likely that this is the right person... Did she have any older brother or sisters? //Jan Edited by - jwiborg on 09/06/2003 20:31:04
BorgeBetty Jean, she is registered in the Ellis Island database: Hegdal, Olga from Flemso, Norway, arriving at New York September 14, 1923 on the Maureatnia of the Cunard Line from Southampton Børge Solem
jwiborgHi again Betty Jean, The Ellis Island records states that her father is Jonas Hegdal Kjaerstad, Aalesund. This could be him in the 1900-census. Fisherman Jonas Sørhegdal born 1863 and wife Anna Sørhegdal born 1872 lives in the city of Ålesund. "Sør" means "South", and could have been cut-off from the name. Btw; Ellis Island records also states that Olga was fair-haired with blue eyes, and was going to visit Mr. Rasmus Ha?vik (friend) in Petersburg, N. Dak... It could be this person she is visiting... /Jan Edited by - jwiborg on 09/06/2003 23:52:29
Betty Jean EllingsonThanks to all of you!! You found Olga!! Interestingly enough, she did not end up marrying Mr. Havik! I will have to get the "rest of the story" on this one.....!! Thanks again! Betty Jean Ellingson
jwiborgHi again, if it is this Mr. Haavik she is going to visit, I'm pretty sure she was'nt going over to marry him. He is 40 years older than her, is married (atleast he was so in 1903... ), and have two girls which are 6 and 10 years older than Olga. It could be that he is a friend, uncle or something of the family, or that Olga knows his daughters Josefine & Margit Haavik. The family emigrated from Ålesund. Olgas age at the time of arrival Ellis Island says 20 y 10 m, which implies that she is born around November 1902... If you provide me with an email address, I can send you a copy of what I found at the Ellis Island database. Jan
Betty Jean EllingsonHi! Thanks- I appreciated your note! You are right, In talking to Olga's daughter again, I found out that Mr. Haavik was Olga's uncle. I did not notice the age of Mr. Haavik when I made that reply!! My e-mail address is rennaem@netscape.net. Your help and expertise is so much appreciated!! Betty Jean Ellingson
Betty Jean EllingsonHi! Thanks so much for the Ellis Island information!! I appreciate all you have done!! This is so much fun!! Betty Jean Ellingson
