Great Grandmother
christylynn1Hello My great grandmother was Laura Augusta Foldoe she was born Aug 12 1876 in Jorgensmoen, Tynset Norway. She married William Alton Fenton on January 20, 1900 un Ulen Mn. I would like to find out her family in Norway but can't seem to find out when she emigrated from Norway. I believe Embretsdatter was also a name ie Laura Augusta Embretsdatter Foldoe Fenton. Would appreciate any little thing that you can do to help me. Thanks Christy
BriningI didn't find her on the emigration list at the Digitalarkivet but she is at the LDS Laura Augusta EMBRETSDR Sex: F Event(s): Birth: 12 Aug 1876 Place: <Tynset, Hedmark, Norway> Christening: 27 Aug 1876 Place: Tynset, Hedmark, Norway Parents: Father: Embret PEDERSEN Mother: Barbro NILSDR There are other children listed to Embret and Barbro Nils EMBRETSEN - Vital Records Index Gender: M Birth/Christening: 25 May 1862 Tynset, Hedmark, Norway 2. Lars EMBRETSEN - Vital Records Index Gender: M Birth/Christening: 14 Jul 1876 Tynset, Hedmark, Norway http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=vr/search_VR.asp&clear_form=true Search for Father: Embret Pedersen, Mother: Barbro Nilsdr to get the records. I didn't find any of the family in the 1900 Norwegian census so wonder if they all emigrated To find her emigration record try and find her in one of the US census. It should list the date which would help narrow the search. Carla Brining@attglobal.net
jwiborgHi, I did a quick search on emigrants from Oslo and Trondheim, and could not find her either... This is probably her parents in the 1865-census. Here she is christened in 1876. Jan
jwiborgHi, I think I found her in the list of emigrants from Oslo 1867-1930![:)] Click here "Laura Petersen" is 3 years old, from "Tønset" and is going to Lanesboro Min. on sept. 12. 1879. She is going with her mother Barbra (listed as married ("G"), 2 brothers and a sister. Her father is not listed. Jan
jwiborgHi again, When was the 1880-census actually done? The family should have arrived in Minnesota by the end of september 1879. If the census was made after that date, it should be possible to find them in the 1880 US census. Did the family settle down in Lanesboro, Fillmore county, MN? Jan
BorgeJan, are you thinking about that little Laura Petersen in the Digitalarkivet emigration registers too?
jwiborgYes, this Laura Petersen must be the same as "Laura Augusta Foldoe" which Christy searches for. Since they arrived by the end of sept. 1879, I would believe it should be possible to find Laura together with her brothers, sister and mother in the 1880 US census. Either at Digitalarkivet or LDS. I've done a quick search after Laura in the census for Minnesota, but haven't found her... Jan
BorgeCould this man be the father going ahead? This could be the family in 1865
jwiborgThis "Ingebret Pedersen" is 40, which implies he is born in 1839. "Our" Embret Pedersen is 31y in the 1865-census, which means he is born in 1835 (1834-1836). He is also going to New York, not Lanesboro, MN, as the rest of the family. It could of course be a mistyping due to the people above on the list, who IS going to NY... The family in 1865 is the correct one. Jan
