OLE OLSON SYLFEST
jjSeeking any information on OLE OLSON SYLFEST and wife CARRIE, immigrated from Voss, Norway to Dane County, Wisconsin in 1855. Unfortunately, this is all I have. Thanks JJ Email: dqjuani@hotmail.com
BriningHi JJ, I think your Ole Olson Sylfest is really Ole Sylfestson. There is an Ole and Carrie Sylfeston in the US 1880 census. Click Here There are 5 men in the 1801 census for Voss with the first name Sylfest/Sylfæst who could be possible fathers to Ole. One is Sylfæst Olson age 6, living on the Grotland farm which using an educated guess would be the correct one but would need a lot more proof. Carla
BorgeThis seams to be Ole and Kari registered in the church records of outmigrants from Voss April 19, 1854. Ole Sølfestsen Grotland born 1823 29/9, the wife Kari Knudsdatter Gjerstad 35 years old
jjMany thanks to you all. [:)] I really appreciate your time and effort. JJ
BriningI think this is them in the 1860 census for Wisconsin Click Here with a lot of misspellings. Sleston could be Sylfestson, Bell would be a common nickname for Isabella but I don't know about Sylvia female/ Syvrrt male. I think an error in census transcribing but I don't know which is correct, maybe if you could look at the original census you could tell. The joy of tracing ancestors with all of the name errors/changes [:D] Here looks like Ole's birth record on the LDS IG Click Here On the LDS if you search on father = Sylfest Olson and mother = Synneva you should get Ole's brothers and sisters Carla
jjSorry for taking so long to get back to you. Thanks again! I didn't get anywhere with Ole's parents names as far as siblings. Yes, it is *fun* with so many ways names are spelt. [;)] Take care, jj >Juanita<
BriningThe LDS search is nuts[:o)] The parents name on the main search page doesn't work but if you click on The International Genealogical index and search it does. Here is the list. I don't know if they are all brothers and sisters but looks likely. Carla 1. BEGGA SYLFESTSEN - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 18 MAR 1821 Voss, Hordaland, Norway 2. jjHi, What a hectic few weeks. Thank you so much for all the information. I am trying to find the relationship between the Sylfests and my 2nd Great Grandparents, Peder Rasmusson (changed to Tenseth in the USA) and his wife, Maret Olsdatter Rudi. I am told it is through Pauline Olson who married Ole Sylfest. Pauline and her folks were born in Sweden, so I'm on another journey. [:D] This is fun... May I say here, I haven't found anything on Maret's sister, Ragnhild Olsdatter Rudi after she came to the USA. It would be nice if I could find out what her husband's first name was. (she married after coming stateside). JJ (Juanita)
