Helge Knutsen Flaaten
Residence: Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. Born 10 Jan 1832 in Hallingdal, Norway. He and his wife, Gro, came to US in 1857. Gro was born in Aal, Hallingdal. Civil War: Private. Died in a Georgia hospital in 1864. Sources: (Letter, Betty Livingston, Downey, California) (Ulvestad p282)

History of Trempealeau County, Wisconsin, page 158:
The first settlers in Bear Creek Valley in 1858 were aforesaid Ole Ellingson, Lars Knutson, from Nummedahl, and Helge Knutson from Hallingdal. He served in the army and died in a Southern hospital in 1864.
