I have several relatives living in Norway that I am trying to locate. My grandpa's Norwegian name was Leif Aamund Kvinge, he was given the last name "knutsen" at Ellis Island. My grandmother's maiden name was Ingaborg Anna Anderson. One of my relatives was Anders Svor, a wood carver from Styn, Norway. There is a museum in Stryn named after him. One very distant relative had the name of Peder Satre. I don't want to make my first posting too long, so any advice would be appreciated if any of those names are familiar to anyone.

Message: Finding living relatives is not easy. Bringing up information here can be a good start.
Some add. information, could be someone look into this topic.
Anders Svor 1864-1929 born on Svor in Hornindal was a sculptor with exhibitions in Europe and USA.
Could be your granfathers name in Norway was Leif Aamund Knutsen Kvinge.
Peder Satre could bee Peder Sætre in Norway.

Message: I was once told by my father, Herb Knutsen that his father, Aamund Knutsen Kvinge came through Ellis Island in 1903. This possibly could be incorrect information. My Grandfather Leif Aamund Knutse Kvinge was born in Norway in 1886 and died in 1955 in Everett, Wa.
My Grandpa Leif's parents were named Ludvig Knudson and Martha Hanson. I found our family tree today and the last name Kvinge goes way back for us.
I didn't realize this search would be so difficult but I won't give up.
One living relative that I know of is named Synnove Lathe, I'm not sure where in Norway she lives or how to get ahold of her.

Message: Using the link to the search engine above you can look for people in Norway. There is no Synnove Lathe listed but there is a Synnøve Lothe listed. If this person looks to be the person you think is a relative you can look up her address using 1881 Kart and clik on Søk to get an address to send her a letter. You can also look up people in the Norwegian version of white pages. Click on the link below, type her name in the big white box, do not worry about the Norwegian ø just type o and the system will take care of that, click search and scroll down to the names.

Message: Emigration from Bergen on June 15th, 1883: Lars Knutsen Kvinge b 1835 Aase Larsdatr Kvinge b 1839 Ragnhild Larsdatr Kvinge b 1860 Knut Larssen Kvinge b 1860 Severin Larssen Kvinge b 1873
Siri b. 1865 is not listed in the confirmation records, and not listed with the family at the emigration, so she could have died young.
Anyway; this means that Leif Aamund's family on his fathers side from Kvinge all emigrated to America, so any relatives in Norway are very distant. I think your best option to find any relatives in Norway would be through Ingaborg Anna Anderson.

Message: I just got back on this site after about a week and oh my lord, you people have found a whole bunch of information on my family. I don't even know where to start, this information is like looking at my family tree. I just found out that Anders Svor was a relative of my Grandma Ingaborgh Anna Anderson who's grandparents were Anders and Brite Svord from Hornsdal today and I thought that was amazing. I get on this site and see all this. I don't know how to thank you all! Charlotte Knutsen

Message: Here is wood carver Anders Svor in census-1865, listed as Anders Rasmussen (1 yr) His parents are farmer Rasmus Arnesen Svor (1835–1914) and Ragnhild Olsdatter Seljeset (1834–1902).
Anders and Brite Svord from Hornindal which you refer to are probably living on the same farm, listed as Anders Olsen (51) and Brithe Knudsdatter (58). Anders is a schoolteacher and he is Rasmus Arnesens' stepfather.
Arne Rasmussen & Brite Knudsdr had the following children: Rasmus Arnesen born 02 Jan 1831, chr 02 Jan 1831, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane Lucreta Ragnilde Arnesdatter born 28 Jan 1832, chr 12 Feb 1832, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane Rasmus Christofer Arnesen born 05 Mar 1835, chr 08 Mar 1835, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane Knud Iver Arnesen - born 19 Jan 1838, chr 19 Jan 1838, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane Christoffer Hans Arnesen born 17 Apr 1840, chr 17 Apr 1840, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane Ingeborg Laurentze Arnesdatter born 12 Mar 1843, chr 18 Mar 1843, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane
Arne Rasmussen must have died 1842-1845, and Brite married Anders Olsen.
Anders Olsen & Brite Knudsdr had the following children: Anne Oline Andersen, born 26 NOV 1845, chr 30 NOV 1845, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane Ole Andreas Andersen, born 25 APR 1849, chr 25 APR 1849, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane Synneve Ingeborg Andersen, born 19 MAR 1853, chr 28 MAR 1853, Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane
Your Grandma Ingaborgh Anna Anderson is in census-1900 listed as Ingeborg Anna Olsdatter. She is the daughter of Ole Andreas Andersen, born 25 APR 1849 and Oline Eriksdatter b 1858. Thus; Brithe Knudsdr Svor is the mother of Rasmus Christofer Arnesen (b 05 Mar 1835), who is the father of wood carver Anders Svor (b. 14 Dec 1864). Brithe Knudsdr is also the mother of Ole Andreas Andersen (b. 25 APR 1849), who is the father of your grandma Ingaborg Anna Anderson (b. 1896).
=> Anders Svor and Ingaborg Anna Anderson are first cousins.
Ingaborg Anna's parents must at some time have emigrated to America, because her two brothers Anders b 1885 and Egil b 1887 are listed as born in America. The family must have returned to Norway between 1887-1893, when her brother Ingvald are born.
Earlier; you mentioned "Synnove Lathe". In census-1900 where you find Ingeborg Anna; there's a Jakob Jensen Lothe listed, who is the son of Synneve Eriksdatter. Synneve is prob. a daughter of Erik Larsen Brendefur, and thus a sister of Oline Eriksdatter. Synneve is noted as "Madame teacher Lothe". Her husband (teacher Jens Lothe?) is absent.
=> Jakob Jensen Lothe and Ingaborg Anna Anderson are first cousins.
You'll find a lot of Brendefur in Hornindal which are probably related to this family.

Message: As I may have mentioned I have located an Anders Svor through google. I told him about my grandma Ingaborgh Ann and he did some research and wrote back to me stating that we are indeed related. Even after sending him two seperate emails, he hasn't responded since. I would think that this info from him would open some doors for me, but I feel I've hit a dead end with him as he hasn't written back. I so appreciate all of your help and I will continue my research with info that has been provided to me on this site.

Message: Hi Charlotte,
I might have a few relatives in commom, and thought I'd pass on my research!
Leif Aamund Knutsen is my great-great uncle. One of his brothers, Morris, married my great grandma (Anna Giesler). I have Leif listed as having 5 children: Leif, Ida, Iris, Ruth and Elmer. These are cousins to my grandma (Anna/Morris's daughter). I vaguely remember photo's of Ruth, Iris and my grandma. Grandma is living, but I couldn't be certain about the cousins.
It sounds like I'm one generation under you (I'm 28).
Here's a link to the family tree I have put together on MyHeritage: http://www.myheritage.com/site-family-tree-74591591/moats.
*UPDATE* I found a prison/court record for Leif A Knutson with some very interesting information! I can email the files if wanted... just let me know
Let me know if anything helps! Good luck with your searching! Analise Moats
