Transcription error on age and last name -- in the original document (scan of relevant page here http://ancstry.me/1CdbMZP) he is listed as 6 months of age, however he was actually a newborn, born on board ship during passage, but note that all the infants are listed as 6 months regardless of actual age in months; and last name is spelled Benedictus. His full name Wittus Johan Benedictus, named for the ship and ship's captain, was born to Nille Catherine Johannesdatter from Volla (not noted on Passenger List probably busy birthing), the 40 year old wife of passenger #12 Jon Olsen Bergum (listed as John Bergesen (46)). For published account of this family's journey to America see summary paragraph http://ancstry.me/1v0UoSj

Wittus Johan Benedictus is Jon Olsen Bergum’s son. According to the Boka om Land Vol. IV, their party included passengers #12-16:
Jon Olsen Bergum (b.1802), owner of the farm Bergum, with his wife Nille Johannesdatter Volla (b.1809), their daughter Berte Marie (b.1837) and newborn son Wittus Johan Benedigtus (b.11th Jul 1849 en route, named after both the captain and the ship), plus the unmarried woman Marie Larsdatter (b.1815) from the tenant farmer's place Siristuen, part of the farm Houg, and the two foster children Inger Martea Larsdatter (b.1845), and Anne Marie Bjørnsdatter from Lom (b.1829). The Bergum family came first to Koshkonong, WI, and then to Coon Prairie the following year.

[NOTE: Nille J. and Marie L. are not listed on this transcript, but "Hans Nille age 40" listed on the original passenger list after Jon Bergum is probably our Nille; I cannot locate entry for Marie L, perhaps variation of her name or she came by different ship.]
