Berthe Monsdatter was born on Monsebakken farm in Land, Oppland, Norway, the last of 11 children born to Mons Andersen and Marit Olsdtr. Her father was the owner farmer there, had previously farmed nearby Helgerud and Ulshus. Berthe is one of 4 family members on board: her brother #8 Morten Helgerud age 32, #75 Mons Helgerud age 75, herself #76 Berthe Monsdatter age 24, and brother #79 Ole Monsen plus Ole's wife Karen and 3 daughters #80-83.
