Marit was born: 16 March 1846 in Vestre Slidre, Oppland, Norway to Knud Knudson Rovang and Berit Arnesdtr. She was bap: 10 April 1846, and confirmed in 1861.

In 1867, Marit (Marith), age, 21 yrs., along with her mother Berit, age 62 yrs and brother Arne, born 21 Dec 1849, departed Bergen, Norway, 24 April 1867, on the ship: Nordcap, and arrived in Quesbec, Canada on 9 June 1867.

On 30 November 1868, in the Pastor's Study of the Plymouth Congregational Church, in Faribault, Rice Co., MN, Mary Knutson and Ole Olson (Arnegard) - a farmer from Norway, were married by Rev. James W. Strong.
