Dale Rosten (05.09.2011)

At Valle it happened that Halvor Larsson bought cultivated land for 1,000 SPD (Spesiedalers, an old unit of Norwegian money) plus a pension arrangement to the owner, in 1818. Lars lived until 1829 and Bergit Ingebretsdotter lived, on the pension, until 1836.

The tax bill at Valle now amounted to five hides.

With revision of the land registration number in 1838, Valle got a new tax levy-- Three dalers, 3 ort, 13 shillings (old unit of Norwegian money). The new registration number was 33 and serial number 63A.

Halvor Larsson was a peaceful man, as his father had been and the economic conditions were probably somewhat easier for him. He and his wife were industrious folks. Still, he and his wife, Viel Olsdotter, as well as their children were gripped by "America Fever", which raged quite strongly in the area around Valle.

One son, Ola, left in 1841 and daugther Viel left in 1848. Then in 1850 Halvor sold the old family farm and went with his family to the Midwest.

Both sons, Lars and Ola, were among the pioneers who, with Halstein Floset, moved the Norwegian settlement (?) from Wisconsin into Iowa...west from Dodgeville to Decorah. They were among the founders of the first Norwegian settlement in Iowa.

Other comments:
Halvor's age matches with his birhday, 27 Feb 1790.
The othe Walle's given on the passenger list match his family
Steiner was a nephew who eventually married Halvor's daughter, Sarah / Sigri, in 1854. Steinar's age matches his birth year, 1826
Lars Walle was a son and his age matches his birthday, 19 Oct 1819
Martha Walle was a daughter and the age matches with her birthday, 29 Dec 1835 - where her name is givent as Marte.
Anne Walle was a daughter and the age matches with her birthday, 3 Feb 1831
The two entries that are not readable would likely be Halvor's wife, Viel, and the last daugther, Sarah / Sigri, who married Steiner.
