Erik Hansen Kvitum, b. 1832 in Grong parish, Namdal, Norway. He was a son of farmer Hans Johannesson Kvitum (Kvitem) (1799-1854) and w,. Johanna Jacobsson Rosten (1809-1997). Erik had some siblings: Ane Maria Kvitem (1837-1921), married Georg A. Formo (1834-1909), farmers at Kvitem, Grong parish ; Johannes (Hans) Kvitem, b. 1840, emigrateted 1869 to the USA ; Jacob Kvitem, b. 1844, emigrated 1865 ; Johanna K. Kvitem, b. 1849, married Ole Olson Brenne (Brain) b.1840, originally from Solør, Hedmark, residing in Grong from about 1860-ties, Johanna and Olei emigrated 1873. They operated a farm at Stanford, Barron county, Wis. from 1875-1900. All siblings emigrated from Grong parish, Norway.
