Nearly 30 years after its launch in 1997, Norway Heritage is entering a new chapter with a completely rebuilt website. The website has been completely rebuilt to provide a faster, more accessible, and easier-to-use resource for genealogical and historical research.
Our extensive collection of passenger lists, the Ulvestad Register, ship histories, shipping lines, emigration agents, historical articles, and other research materials has been preserved and reorganized. The new platform also provides a solid foundation for expanding our collections and developing new research tools in the years ahead.
Old links still work. Existing bookmarks and links to pages on the former website are automatically redirected to their corresponding pages on the new site.
A unified site search – search ships, shipping lines, articles, places, and forum discussions from one place.
Improved passenger search – search passenger lists and the Ulvestad Register together, with additional filters for years and individual collections.
Expanded ship pages – ship histories, voyages, passenger lists, and image galleries brought together in one place.
Emigrant settlement history – information about the American counties and communities where Norwegian emigrants settled.
Improved organization – clearer and more accessible information about shipping lines, shipyards, shipowners, and emigration agents.
Better accessibility – a responsive design that makes the website easier to navigate and read on computers, tablets, and mobile phones.
Our forum discussions and historical comments have also been preserved. Earlier forum topics, replies, and comments associated with passengers and ships remain available, including the names originally provided by their contributors.
You can continue to start new forum topics, reply to existing discussions, and contribute comments or additional historical information. Simply provide your name and email address when posting. Your email address will never be displayed publicly.
Please note that the former forum login system is no longer in use. We plan to introduce member accounts again at a later stage.
Although we have made every effort to preserve existing content and links, some errors or omissions may have occurred during the transition. If you discover missing information, broken links, or other problems, please let us know through our contact page.
Thank you for your continued interest, contributions, and support over the years. We look forward to developing Norway Heritage further as a resource for everyone interested in Norwegian emigration, maritime history, and family research.
