Early Norwegian Settlement
Harald O. Tvedt from Nord-Aurdal, Valdres, came to Lancaster, Kansas, from La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 1858 and was the first Norwegian settler in the county. He was followed somewhat later by Tom Flattery from Voss, as well as Elling and Ole Tvedt, Nils T. Ness, Tom Seversen, Ed Hegland, and Ole Gigstad, all from Nord-Aurdal. Wheat, corn, and hemp were the principal products raised for sale in the settlement.
