Early Norwegian Settlement
The first Norwegian settlers in Chelan County were Anders Mundem from Hardanger and Nils Nelson from Øvrebø near Kristiansand. They settled in the vicinity of Leavenworth in 1884. At that time, Ellensburg was the nearest marketplace, approximately fifty miles away.
