Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin

Early Norwegian Settlement

The brothers Ole Helgesen and Kolbjørn Helgesen from Sokndal, Dalene, were the first Norwegian settlers in Fond du Lac County. They came from the Rock River Settlement, where they had lived for two years, and settled at Waupun in 1845.

They were followed by Engebret Madsen, as well as Isak Langerud and Halvor Langerud, all from Gjerpen; the brothers Lars Thompson, Hans Thompson, Anund Thompson, Torkel Thompson, and Thorsten Thompson, together with Halvor Gulliksen and Gullik Gulliksen, all from Sauherad, Telemark; and Sven Gulbransen from Aker near Kristiania (Oslo).
