Norwegian Settlement
No separate settlement history can be given for Hardin County, since the earliest Norwegian settlement there was closely connected with the settlement in Story County, where its history is described.
Churches and Congregations
Tipton Congregation was established at Cottage Grove in 1869 by Pastor N. Amlund of the Norwegian Synod and was the first Norwegian congregation in Hardin County. The first Norwegian church in the county was built at Radcliffe in 1886 by Zion Congregation of Hauge’s Synod. By 1905, Hardin County had four Norwegian congregations and four churches. Three congregations belonged to Hauge’s Synod and one to the Norwegian Synod.
