Jo Davies County, Illinois

Early Norwegian Settlement

An attempt was made to establish a Norwegian settlement in the county in 1845, but it was unsuccessful, and no permanent Norwegian community developed.

Norwegian Place Names

The only possible reminder of the early Norwegian presence was a post office named Nora, although the source does not establish whether the name was actually of Norwegian origin.
