Norwegian Settlement near Herscher and Buckingham

A Norwegian settlement developed in the vicinity of Herscher and Buckingham. The first settlers came mainly from Stavanger Amt and Søndre Bergenhus Amt. Over time, the settlement declined as many Norwegian families moved farther west, particularly to Iowa and other states, in search of new homes.

Churches and Congregations

By 1905, the settlement had three Norwegian congregations and one church. Two of the congregations belonged to the Norwegian Synod, while one belonged to the United Church.
