Norwegian Settlement

It is not known who the first Norwegian settler in Kossuth County was. The Norwegian population of the county remained relatively small, although one group of settlers came from Sørum Parish.

Churches and Congregations

Blakjær Congregation was established at Seneca in 1876 by Pastor M. C. Holseth and was the first Norwegian congregation in Kossuth County. It belonged to the Norwegian Synod. Its church, built in 1895, was the first and only Norwegian church in the county. By 1905, the Norwegian Synod also had a congregation at Wesley. There were no other Norwegian congregations in Kossuth County.
