Early Norwegian Settlement
Martin T. Grande from Ytterøen Parish was the first Norwegian settler in the area. He came from Wyoming and settled near Lennep in 1877. Grande was engaged in sheep raising. When he first arrived, Helena was his nearest marketplace, approximately 140 miles away. As a result, he had to travel a considerable distance whenever he needed to purchase supplies or take goods to market.
Churches and Congregations
A Norwegian congregation belonging to the United Church was established in 1891 by Pastor J. A. Pedersen.
