Early Norwegian Settlement
Price County was still a relatively new county when this account was written about 1905. Daniel O. Eittreim and K. O. Knutsen from Hardanger, together with Engel Olsen, were the first Norwegian settlers in the county. They settled in the vicinity of Knox Hills in 1897. John Pettersen and Harald Arnesen were the first Norwegian settlers in the Spirit area. A number of Norwegians also settled in the vicinity of Catawba.
Churches and Congregations
The first Norwegian congregation in Price County was established near Knox Hills in 1898 by Pastor J. E. Nord of the United Church. Its church was built in 1902. By 1905, there were three Norwegian congregations in the county, each with its own church. All three belonged to the United Church.
