Saunders County, Nebraska

Early Norwegian Settlement

The first, or at least one of the first, Norwegians in Saunders County was Edward A. Brødbøll, who settled at Wahoo in 1869. The Steen family arrived at about the same time. By 1905, Brødbøll operated a bank in Lindsay, Platte County, Nebraska, and was well known in the state as a financier. The Steen brothers, by contrast, were best known for their service during the Civil War.

Public Office

Henry Anderson was the first Norwegian to hold public office in Saunders County. He was elected County Treasurer in 1878.
