Early Norwegian Settlement
The first Norwegian settler in Skamania County was John Kanikkeberg from Hardanger. He settled in Home Valley, where a small Norwegian community later developed, in the late 1880s.
Churches and Congregations
A Norwegian congregation was established at Home Valley in 1891 by Pastor Peder Tangjerd. It belonged to the United Church.
Norwegian Place Names
There was formerly a post office in Skamania County named Nilsen.
