Norwegian Presence in Elizabeth
Most of the Norwegians in Union County lived in the city of Elizabeth, although their numbers were relatively small. Factory work was the principal source of employment. Elizabeth also had a Norwegian congregation belonging to the United Church.
Former Norwegian Settlement at Thorsland
Union County once had a post office named Thorsland. A small Norwegian settlement had also existed in the area. The settlement eventually disappeared as the Norwegian residents sold their homes and moved westward.
