Confused with Norwegian names?

The way the old names were given is very confusing. Have I got this right: If my gt grandfather was Hans Jacobsen Hansen then: Hans was his real name, Jacobsen would be his last name and Hansen was a farm? Or would his middle name with 'en' on the end mean he was a second born son? I am so confused with this, can someone please help me?
