I am having trouble finding Emmigration information about this man's 1st and 2nd generation desendents. I know the folowing: He was married to Sønni Sorensdatter Opstad on 11 June 1`771 in Rygge, Osfeld, Norway. The family is listed in an 1801 census, living at the Otterstad farm in Rygge.
Hans Christian Pederson, head, age 59, 1st marriage, Bonde gaardbeboer M 452
Sønni Sorendtr, wife, age 54, 1st marriage
Søren Hansen, age 26 single, Nat. Artillerist
Peder Hansen, son, age 23, single, Nat. Soldat
Marthe Hansdtr, daughter, age 15 (this is the one I'm after)
Even Hansen, son, age 11.
Marthe married Kristian Larson (b. 12/6/85) in Rygge. They had the the folowing children:
Lars Kristiansen (b. 1808 in Rygge)
Sønne Kristiansdtr (b. 1816 in Rygge)
Marthin Kristinasen (b. 17/7/1820 in Rygge))
Hans Kristiansen (b. 1826 in Rygge)
Now the mystery. Kristian Larson supposedly died in Rygge in 1840. Of the rest, at least Marthe, Marthin and Hans emmigrated to the US. (Wisconsin) Marthe and Marthin appear on the passenger list fror JOHANNA, 1843 as 73. Marthe Skaugen and 74 Martin Skaugen (ages check right on). JOHANNA 1843 checks with family records. I have checked all posted 1843 pass lists for the others - no joy.
The JOHANNA list is the first time the name Skaugen appears in my records. They made a good mess of it in Wisconsin. They became Skoven, then Christiansen and finally Wood.
I am interested in all of Marthe's children, but especially Hans Kristiansen. he was my GGrandfather's first cousin, his close friend and a great help to him during our Civil War.
I appreciate any help you can provide. James E. Heg
