My Great Great Grandfather, Engebret Thomassen, was born in 1819 at Nordre Masjo, grn 150, br 1, the son of Thomas Vethammer & Randi Olsdatter. Engebret married Inge Simesdatter in 1849 and they had two children at Nordre Maasjo. Then, they apparently move to Romedal, Tomter Parish, to Opsalbakken farm in about 1855, where they had three more children. I believe he left there to go back to Nordre Masjo about 1865 and then he and Inge and their five children travelled to Quebec on the ship "Refondo". His youner brother Even, took over the farm from Randi.
There is a note in the Staange Misterialbok about Engebret "uuterflytte" in 1855, and then that is crossed out and emigrated to americal What would be the possible reason for him to go to Opsalbakken for ten years and then come back to emigrate?
Do you possibly have any information on either of these 2 farms, location, are they still there in operation, & is there any more information on the Refondo, built in Schleswig (Hamburg) about 1857, possibly a picture. It sailed to Quebec 1867/68 and then sort of disappears.
Thank you for your assistance.
