Gulbrandsen native

I am trying to track information on my grandmother who lived in Gulbrandsen and immigrated to U.S. in appr 1887. She left out of Oslo. I do not know the correct spelling of her last name but it is appr. "Stehnstugen". She was 19 at the time. How do I start? Edited by - pat
