Heggernæs on Stjerne Linie: Where to look?

I am hoping some kind soul can help me figure out how to find information on my great-grandfather’s passage from Norway to the US. Here is what I know: Karl Olsen Heggernæs (born 1868) is listed in the digitalarkivet as having traveled from the port of Bergen on the Stjerne Linie (White Star) departing March 18, 1887 (http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMIBERG&gardpostnr=21715&merk=21715#ovre) I am trying to figure out where to look from here as to what ship he was on, if there is a manifest, and where he arrived. If I am understanding the passages from Bergen correctly, he took another ship from Bergen to Liverpool, and then the White Star line from Liverpool to the US. Am I on the right track? I have been unable to find him arriving at Ellis Island. Could he have arrived at another port? I greatly appreciate any tips or advice. Searching the ship’s records is new for me. Thanks you!
