Help with Search

First off, I'm excited to have found this site. Thanks to those that have kept it going! I've spent significant time over the last week searching for my Great-Great Grandfather Laurence Larson. Unfortunately, I quickly reached a dead end with inconsistent census data such as different name spellings, ages, and dates of arrival. I can't trace him back any further than when he got married at 22 in 1891. His birthplace on everything i've found has consistently been Norway. His father M. Larson (only data available,) and mother Ann Gableson (maiden name, thats what it looks like,) were both born in Norway as well. With such little data, I haven't been able to find anything else. I would think the next step would be to find him in Norway or on his journey to the states, but I can't gain any traction. Thoughts? What am I missing? Where can I go from here? I appreciate any direction you can give!
