Information about names and distilleries

I have a Peter Torgareed with sons Hans Halverson and Matt Halverson. Could these be stepsons? They left Norway when the Norwegian Goverment took over distilleries as my story goes. Peter became disgruntled and took his family to America by way of Canada. Can anyone tell me what year that would be?
