Inland voyage passenger lists/border

Do any Great Lakes ship passenger lists still exist? And if so, where would I find them? Did the train companies at the time keep passenger lists? And if so, do they still exist? And finally, how about border crossing records? Where would I likely find them if they exist? I have quite a few ancestors who emigrated to the US - traveling from Norway to Quebec and then on to various destinations in the US, Detroit and Chicago among them. They all emigrated sometime between 1867 and 1872. I understand that some may have traveled by train from Quebec and others by ship on the Great Lakes.
