John Olson born in Norway 1807

My ancestor, John Olson was born in Norway and is listed on the Swedish ship, Favoriten, which sailed from Stockholm and arrived in NY on 1 June, 1837. He was 30 yrs old and traveled with Hans Olson, age 19. Both were joiners. Please suggest how to search for his birthplace or residence in Norway. Many thanks![:)]
