I have recently started to look back at my families past, and thought I would post my infromation to see if anyone could potentially give me more info.
My great Grandfather, Lars Loken, came to Canada in 1907 via Ellis Island, and I was able to lookup the information on the Ship Manifests, and found the complete family.
Lars Loken
Marie Loken
Hjalmar Loken
Lorentz Loken
Rolf Loken, My grandfather
Torolf Loken.
Based on the information from the manifest I was also able to lookup Lars, Marie and Hjalmar in Sarpsborg, Norway using the 1900 Census information. But here they were know as Hansen. All the dates matchup, and the occupation of my Lars also matches, up. The name change is not surprising, as many did change there names, but also there is a mistery to the name change.
It turns out that my Great Grandfather dicided to cut out his familiy from the piture entirely. It has always been common knowlegde in my familiy that whenever one would ask questions about my Great Grandfathers family he would not say anything. Thus I have a mystery of Why and What happened.
Based on the 1900 Census, I know that Lars Hansen was born in the Hadeland, Krs. This is an area north of Oslo, as I found out from a Hadeland society in the USA. So I search once again the the province of Oppland for Lars Hansen using the 1875 Census data. Lars would have been 1 year old. And I thing I have Success....
I found in the town of Sel, a familiy that has a Lars Hansen born in that same year as detailed in the 1900 Census. So I stumble of a family of 6.
Hans Olsen 1825
Ymbjør Larsdatter 1833
Ole Hansen 1861
Kari Hansdatter 1864
Hans Hansen 1871
Lars Hansen 1874 My great Grandfather
If anyone had information that could be useful, I would appreciate an Email....
