Meaning of the word Desponsati

The couple is listed under the heading Desponsati for 29 December 1756. Left #4 In some work done a few months ago I found them married on 19 June 1957. Does Desponsati mean the date they were engaged to be married ie betrothed. I assume it is Latin.
