Name pronunciation

A friend, of Norwegian heritage, named Rierson insists that his name be pronounced as Reyerson because that is the correct Norwegian pronunciation. I too of Norwegian heritage pronounce it Reerson, much to his consternation. I can find no guidance on this elsewhere, so perhaps someone in this forum can answer this earth-shattering question.
