norwegian name

Please can anybody help me ? I am desperate!! I am trying to find out information on a John E Tagsdal(found on UK 1891 census).I can not find out anything in UK .I understand it is a Nowegian name. On the Ellis Island website I found Jens Teksdal-what is Jens in English? Also I found the surname Tegsdal. Could this be the father of the boy born in 1869 in Liverpool England. Would it be possible to put the name TARGSDAL or varients into some websites /census's sites to see if I am searching for the correct name. Any help would be appreciated.
