Norwegian sailors on Duke of Edinburgh

It is possible that a distant relative arrived in Sydney, NSW, Australia on board the sailing ship "Duke of Edinburgh" as an able seaman in July 1874. His name was noted in the shipping records as Nils M Thomsen - the ship came to Sydney from the "South Seas Islands" - most likely Fiji, Vanuatu and Tonga in the South West Pacific Anyone with information, I would be grateful
