Norwegian sails for American ships

My great grandfather emigrates to America in 1902 https://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/gen/vis/8/pe00000001060906 as a bricklayer. He is traveling to his uncle in Wisconsin. I have som information on his uncle´s family and whereabouts. He returns to Norway in 1905. But claim to be sailing at sea for some of the years he has been abroad. I know he lost his one arm in America, but have noe record of the incident. Is there any way to search for crew on american ships for the period of 1902-1905?
