Passenger Ship Hern Route from Europe to US

Hello, I have been led to a ships log that indicates a person I am looking for has boarded the ship at a place that looks like GIFLE. Any ideas what this may mean? The ship also had other passengers that is had collected from Antwerp, Copenhagen and Bremen so I thought Gifle may be a port somewhere along there that I just don't know about or it is part of the word for a full name? I don't know how to down load the jpeg for you to see....sorry If you require any further info please let me know, TIA Sarah
