Recording a death "Lost at sea"

Does anyone know how they would have recorded the death of a Norwegian citizen lost at sea? Would this have been done in their local Parish Register by a relative, or is there a particular archive for Norwegians who died abroad? I am looking at the period of 1890-1910? Thanks for all help and advice
