Registration of Mariners

Hi, I am still searching for the ship that Lars Ellingsen arrived in Australia in the mid 1850, s as a seaman, not a passenger. My two queries are; 1. Was there any sort of registration of Norwegian mariners in the 1850s? 2. I have been told verbally that a couple of ships left Norway direct to Australia in this period. Can anyone help with these two lines of enquiry please. Regards, Brian.
