sailors

Hello everyone I've recently read that during the 1880"s, there were a significant number of Norwegian sailors deserting their ships at American ports. Apparently, there were no consequences for such action and it was quite common. Has anyone come across this in their research? I'm wondering if anyone has had any success in tracing someone who may have come to U S in this fashion. Thanks[?]
